Federal deputy emphasized, in a note, that he did not refer to the withdrawal in the video that announced that he will not be a candidate in the 2024 elections

Manaus (AM) – Federal deputy Amom Mandel (Citizenship) denied news that indicated a possible “withdrawal” from the electoral race for Manaus City Hall in 2024, through a note published on Saturday (30), on his social networks.

In the published text, Amom criticized the “sensationalism” of news portals and stated that he did not say he was giving up, since he never officially ran for the position of mayor of Manaus.

“To be clear, the phrase “I give up” never came out of my mouth, despite the headlines. I never give up on any challenge I decide to try. It’s impossible to “give up” what I never officially declared I wanted. I simply said that my goal is to finish what I started. I am guided by the desire to do the best for my city and my State”,

highlighted in a note.

The moment the deputy refers to is another clarification published on Instagram, last Friday (29). In the video, Amom declared that he will not be a candidate for Mayor of Manaus for the elections that will take place in 2024, as the mission in the Chamber of Deputies has not yet ended.

“I never officially launched myself as a candidate (for mayor) and I did that for one reason: I believe that our mission in the Chamber of Deputies has not yet ended, and there are a lot of things I still want to do and haven’t done,”

stated in an excerpt of the video.

After the publications, internet users criticized the deputy’s attitude and pointed out indecision in his positions.

Repercussion

The most voted federal deputy from Amazonas remained stable in voting intention polls, occupying second position, behind only the current mayor of Manaus, David Almeida (Avante). The declaration of not participating in the City Hall elections changes the political scenario in the capital.

The president of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas (Aleam) and state deputy, Roberto Cidade (União Brasil), stated on his Twitter/X profile, this Saturday (30), that Amom’s attitude was “mature” and “ wisdom”.

“I just saw the publication by deputy Amom Mandel informing that he will not contest the election for mayor of Manaus next year. Amom’s decision to complete his term and help our Amazonas in Brasília, as our most voted Federal Deputy, is a mature attitude that reveals the courage and wisdom of a young man who understands the times of politics. It is yet another inspiring sign for our population, showing that politics must be the effective way to solve the problems of our AM, cities, and people. Deputy Amon has and will always have my respect and admiration”,
