Americanas is rushing to finalize its fourth-quarter balance sheet, while redoubling efforts to obtain support from creditors for the judicial recovery plan, according to sources close to the matter heard by Reuters recently.

The retailer filed for bankruptcy in January after discovering an accounting deficit of R$ 20 billion.

“Americanas does not make any judgment about the nature or extent of the participation of the auditing companies in the episode”, stated the company in a material fact to the CVM (Securities Commission).

“However, a greater deepening of the verification work would be necessary to, from now on, ensure PwC’s independence to continue with the work of auditing the company’s financial statements”, he added.

Citing the need to present audited financial statements as soon as possible, Americanas and its board “decided to terminate the contract with PwC and immediately hire BDO”, he said.
