Manaus (AM) – Retail trade in Manaus showed positive sales results during Black Friday and Christmas 2023. This is what the Sales Survey Survey carried out by Fecomércio AM, through the Amazonas Business Research Institute (Ifpeam), reveals. The survey was carried out between December 26th and 27th and covered 291 commercial companies in the city’s shopping malls (57%), in the center (34%) and in the neighborhoods (9%).

During Black Friday, 37% of respondents said there had been an increase in sales this year. Of these 108 companies that showed an increase, for 41% the increase was up to 10%, followed by 43% of respondents who stated an increase between 11% and 35% and 10% confirmed an increase between 36% and 49%, compared to the same period last year. Only 6% had a sales increase of more than 50%.

At Christmas, 46% of those interviewed responded that there was an increase in sales. Of these 135 companies that recorded an increase in sales, the increase was between 11% and 35% (44% of responses), up to a 10% increase was reported by 40% of respondents. For 10% of the companies interviewed, revenue increased between 36% and 49% and only 6% of entrepreneurs reported an increase in revenue of more than 50%. The survey also reveals that store stock for this Christmas was higher, compared to the same period last year, for 48% of respondents. And for 40%, the stock remained the same as at Christmas 2022.

According to the survey, among the main segments that showed positive results, household appliances, the beauty sector, clothing, footwear, electronic items, cosmetics and perfumery and supermarkets stand out.

Payment

The survey of small, medium and large companies shows that credit cards were the most used form of payment, corresponding to 57% of responses, followed by cash payments (Pix, cash, bank transfer, etc.) with 31 %. For 9% of companies, the debit card was the most used form of payment, followed by 3% who used credit/carnet or the store’s own card.

The average value of purchases at Christmas broke a record among the main commemorative dates that moved commerce last year. The comparison includes: Natal, with an average value per customer of R$396.44; Black Friday, with R$359.42; Mother’s Day, with R$ 209.05; Children’s Day, with R$ 173.91; Father’s Day, with R$ 154.60; and Valentine’s Day, with R$ 146.71.

It is worth highlighting that in the Consumer Purchase Intention Survey, applied by Ifpeam two months before Black Friday, consumers were asked about their intention to spend. Of the total of 950 interviewees, the significant majority, corresponding to 58%, expressed their intention to spend between R$ 151.00 and R$ 400.00 on gifts. This data proved to be accurate, as revealed by the results of the Sales Survey carried out after the commemorative date.
