IPC-Fipe rises and closes 2023 with an increase of 3.15% – 01/06/2024 – Market

São Paulo’s IPC (Consumer Price Index) slowed down and increased by 0.38% in December last year and closed 2023 with an accumulated increase of 3.15%, well below the previous year’s result, reported Fipe (Economic Research Institute Foundation) this Friday (5).
Last year’s accumulated inflation was less than half the 7.32% in 2022. In November the index had risen 0.43%.
In 2023, the biggest variation was recorded by Health, with an accumulated increase of 8.46%. Also noteworthy were advances of 7.10% in Education and 5.90% in Clothing.
Another indicator, the IGP-DI (General Price Index-Internal Availability), accelerated the increase in December, but closed the year 2023 with a drop of 3.30%, reported FGV (Fundação Getulio Vargas) this Friday ( 5).
The index, which encompasses the entire country, rose 0.64% in the month, against 0.50% in November, marking the highest result since May 2022 with pressure from both wholesale and consumer prices.
On the other hand, the accumulated drop in the period from January to December last year was the most intense for a full year in the entire historical series.
In the month, the IPA-DI (Broad Producer Price Index), which accounts for 60% of the general indicator, rose 0.79%, against 0.63% in November, but closed the year with deflation of 5.92% .
