Steffano Cardoso, 16 years old, shines in international competition
Manaus (AM) – Fighter Steffano Cardoso, 16 years old, secured two gold medals at the Pan American Jiu-jitsu Champion Juvenil Blue Middle and Absolute, the second biggest competition in the sport, held in the city of Kissimmee, Florida (USA). With support from the Government of Amazonas, through the Amazonas de Alto Rendimento Foundation (Faar), the athlete receives the State Sports Scholarship with a promise of high performance in the Amazon.
“When we have Amazonian athletes winning international titles, we know that our work is on the right track. Therefore, the Government of Amazonas has given all the necessary support, this victory only confirms that the investments are bringing great results”,
said Faar’s CEO, Jorge Oliveira.
Organized by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), the 2023 edition of the Pan American Jiu-Jitsu Championship is one of the most important competitions in the sport’s annual calendar.
Practicing the sport for over 9 years, Steffano secured two gold medals in the Juvenile 2 Middleweight and Absolute Heavyweight categories. The athlete pointed out that the dispute served as preparation for the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship to be held in California (USA).
“In the competition I had good fights and finished well, I really liked my performance and now it’s time to work on fixing the mistakes and in the next championship I’ll come back even better. I want to thank Governor Wilson Lima for investing in the sport, raising the level of jiu-jitsu”,
highlighted the athlete Steffano.
In addition to winning the Pan American Championship, the athlete is featured in regional, national and world competitions. He was already Amazonense Jiu-Jitsu champion in 2022 and competed in the Absolute World Championship CBJJE, in São Paulo (SP).
Sports Scholarship
Launched by the Government of Amazonas, Bolsa Sport Estado, benefited 89 athletes, from base, para-athletes, high performance and high Olympic performance. The unprecedented sponsorship seeks to contribute to the training of new athletes, in addition to being an incentive for those contemplated to reach national and international levels in their modalities.
