Manaus (AM) – At a time when the world is turning to discussions on the sustainable development of the Amazon territory at the recently held Amazon Summit, the Iungo Institute, Reúna Institute and Uma Concertação pela Amazônia launch the program Itinerários Amazônicos (

The Amazon Itineraries program aims to ensure the Amazon in the high school curricula, in all its complexity, and to promote knowledge and awareness about this region that is so fundamental for Brazil and the planet.

The launch meeting brought together political authorities, Amazonian leaders, students and educators from the region, in addition to representatives of partner institutions.

The program is already present in 8 of the 9 states of the Legal Amazon. Together, these states have more than 54,000 teachers, 1 million students and 3,000 high schools.

“At each international event, such as the Amazon Summit and the COP, which will also be held in Belém, the Amazon is placed at the center of the global debate on sustainable development and there is a mobilization for its conservation. But we need to include the Amazon in our daily conversations, because we need to get to know it in order to learn how to care for it, respect it, protect it, promote development with it and conserve it. The Itinerários Amazônicos program has this objective, to bring the Amazon to the classroom, in a complex approach, working with young people on the environmental, historical, cultural, social and economic dimensions”,

What are Amazon Itineraries?

Itinerários Amazônicos is a free program that provides pedagogical materials on Amazonian themes and carries out ongoing training with educators from teaching networks to be implemented in schools. It aims to bring to the classrooms an in-depth study on topics that affect the region, such as climate change, social and economic issues in the Amazon, in articulation with the National Common Curricular Base and state high school curricula.

The program has two fronts:

1 — Content: materials organized into curricular units and modules aimed at training in high school, with proposals for activities and reference materials for teachers. Any educator in Brazil can access and use the materials in their classes for free!

2 — Continuing training: for teachers, school managers and education technicians from partner education networks in the Legal Amazon. All Brazilian educators can access the training content available on the program’s YouTube channel.

The program is a joint undertaking of the Iungo Institute, the Reúna Institute and the Uma Concertação pela Amazônia initiative, with a partnership and investments from the BNDES, the Hydro Sustainability Fund, the Arapyaú Institute, the Bem Maior Movement and sponsored by Vale.
