Amapá is faced with a unique opportunity to diversify and leverage its economic development through the responsible use of its mineral resources. The state is recognized for its abundance of valuable minerals, being prominent in the production of manganese, iron, gold and tantalum. The reserves of these minerals offer significant potential to attract national and international investments.

To discuss actions to boost activity in Amapá, the State Mining Secretary, Jotávio Borges Gomes, met on Tuesday (16/01), with the executive manager of the Brazilian Association of Mineral Research and Mining Companies (ABPM) , Daniel Pires and Oswaldo Dalla Torre, partner at the Tozzini Freire office.

According to Jotávio, the state wants to attract investment in mining to diversify its economy. To this end, it intends to get closer to the sector, talking to large, small and medium-sized companies to present the state’s potential. “Amapá is an important player. We have immense potential for discovering mineral resources and a favorable geographic position for export”, said the secretary.

Legal Security

Oswaldo Dalla Torre highlighted the importance of aligning state bodies for the environmental licensing of mining, investment and infrastructure projects and geological knowledge and legal security. “These are the three fundamental pillars to attract investors interested in contributing resources to mining in the state”, says Torre.

According to Torre, Tozzini Freire has already advised several clients in asset transactions in the mineral sector in the State of Amapá, which is very rich in mineral resources. “The office made itself available to the secretary and his technical team to assist him with regulatory issues in the mineral sector and in the development of an environment with transparency and legal security, aiming to attract investments in the mineral sector in the State and consequent development of the region .”

ABPM Executive Manager, Daniel Pires, agreed with Torre’s assessment, for him, companies are seeking legal security to contribute resources to mining projects. “Investments in mining, especially in large projects, are long-term investments. We are talking about 8 to 10 years in numerical research activities and another 10, 20 years in mineral exploration, heavy investments in science, technology, mobilization of labor. And the main aspect that companies are looking for is legal security,” highlighted Pires.
