The Amapaense Football Federation (FAF) presented this Friday afternoon (20) the long-awaited competition calendar for the year 2024. The new calendar brings some significant changes that promise to further enrich the state’s sporting scene.
One of the most notable changes is the change in the date of the State Championship, due to conflicts with the national calendar. This change is due to the fact that, previously, State representatives faced difficulties when having to compete in two championships at the same time, causing losses for Amapá football and its athletes.
To resolve this impasse, the FAF took the decision to synchronize the State Championship with the national calendar. This will provide greater visibility for the championship and allow Amapá representatives to participate in both competitions without conflicts.
Furthermore, the FAF is committed to continuing to promote local sport and will therefore maintain the competitions introduced in 2023. The Women’s Intermunicipal Championship, which had its first edition in 2023, is back for its second season. This competition has stood out, revealing female talents in football in Amapá.
Another competition that has established itself is the Champions Cup, in which the champions of the Amapá Non-Professional and Men’s Intermunicipal Cups face each other. In 2024, its second edition arrives, promising more excitement and rivalry between the best teams in the state.
The coordinator of the FAF Technical Department, Helielson Costa, highlighted the growth of the competition calendar over the years. He highlighted that “with regards to the FAF competition schedule, from 2022 to 2023, there has been an evolution, a growth in the competition calendar”. He mentioned the inclusion of the Women’s Intermunicipal Championship and the non-professional Champions Cup as a milestone in this progress.
The most significant change is the inclusion of Series B of the Amapaense Professional Football Championship. This competition will not only provide more opportunities for local players and teams to prove themselves on the professional football scene, but it will also increase competitiveness. This will occur because the last two placed in Series A will be relegated to Series B, while the top two in Series B will move up to Series A. This measure aims to raise the level of Amapá football and create an even more challenging environment for clubs and athletes.
Another important addition in 2023 was the FAF Social Championship, which covers an age range of 8 to 12 years old, offering a unique opportunity for children to compete and have fun in a sporting environment. This event is crucial to promote the inclusion and development of young talents from a young age.
FAF president, Netto Góes, highlighted the importance of this expanded calendar, stating: “We will have 10 competitions, almost one competition per month. This increase in competition is important for us to provide opportunities for more athletes and people involved”. Thus highlighting the FAF’s commitment to developing and strengthening football throughout the state.
The 2024 competition calendar seeks to offer a variety of opportunities for athletes of all ages and skill levels, consolidating the FAF’s commitment to strengthening Amapá football. With the entry of Series B and the continuation of successful competitions, the year promises to be very promising for football in Amapá.
