The Amapá student parasports delegation will compete from this Wednesday (29th) in the final and national stage of the 2023 School Paralympics. With 70 members, 35 student-parathletes, from the municipalities of Macapá, Laranjal do Jari, Santana, Oiapoque and Pracuúba , the state is looking for medals in athletics, swimming, weightlifting, table tennis, among others. The event’s stage is the Brazilian Paralympic Training Center, in São Paulo.
Trusting, Luciene Rodrigues, An athletics para-athlete, he will seek medals in the javelin and shot put categories. “I’m focused, I only think about this, and I’m going to get this gold medal”he completed.
In addition to the para-athletes, physiotherapists, physical trainers, technicians and teachers from the State Department of Sports and Leisure (Sedel), are part of the Amapá team, classified for the finals of the competition. The State Government guaranteed the team’s participation, ensuring air tickets, uniforms and warm clothing, delivered by governor Clécio Luís, at Palácio do Setentrião.
“We will continue to encourage parasports in Amapá. What these children and teenagers are achieving on these trips around Brazil fills us with pride. We wish you good luck and new medals, but the main thing is each person’s experience and individual development. We are creating incredible memories for this generation”emphasized the governor.
Keeping an eye on the podium
For the Secretary of Sports and Leisure, Rudney Cunha, expectations are high due to the retrospective of Amapá’s para-athletes, who in 2022 were successful, winning 55 medals in the competition.
“At the regional in Belém, we had 84 medals, an unprecedented number, which shows that our 11 Teaching Centers are training para-athletes and athletes, in addition to the general population, at an appropriate level. Soon we will open registrations for the Olympic Swimming Pool, at Rosa Ataíde, Chico Noé, Ginásio Avertino Ramos, Ginásio de Santana, Escolinhas do Zerão, Raimundo Adamor Picanço, Augusto Antunes, in short, all the centers, so that we can discover new talents. This year, let’s see if we can break our podium record. We are confident,” concluded the secretary.
School Paralympics
The national stage of the 2023 School Paralympics takes place at the Paralympic Training Center, in São Paulo, with the participation of 1800 student-athletes from 26 states and the Federal District, as well as guests from Paraguay, in competitions in 13 sports.
Held by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB), the largest sporting event for children and young people with disabilities in the world continues until Friday, December 1st.
