AM deputies may gain strength with federation between União Brasil and Progressistas

Manaus (AM) — The seams for the formation of the federation between União Brasil and Progressistas are being finalized. With this merger, the Federal Chamber will have the largest bench, with 108 deputies. In addition to the significant size, the union between the acronyms carries strong names in Congress, which have a good relationship with Congress and the Federal Government. In this scenario, according to a political scientist, parliamentarians from Amazonas affiliated to both acronyms may gain more strength.

In the coming days, with the joining of União Brasil and Progressistas, the bench will exceed the number of deputies from the PL, the party of former president Jair Bolsonaro, which has 99 parliamentarians in the Chamber. The federation between the two acronyms obliges them to work together until the end of the mandate, and works both at the national, state and municipal levels.

According to political scientist Carlos Santiago, União Brasil and Progressistas have ideological affinities, so the merger is favorable for the acronyms, which will be even stronger. In addition, the federation also has the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP) and other strong leaders.

“The parties will have more powers to define the voting agenda in the Chamber and in the Federal Senate, not least because the current president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, will be part of this federation”,

For the Lula government, the implementation of the new federation is also advantageous. This is because, in the current situation, according to Carlos Santiago, President Lula has a good dialogue with Progressistas and União Brasil. With the merger between the acronyms, negotiations and conversations will be easier.

In the federal bench of Amazonas, two deputies are part of União Brasil: Saullo Vianna and Fausto Jr. For the political scientist, the parliamentarians that make up the new federation will also benefit, and will be able to act in defense of the interests of the State of Amazonas.

“Politicians affiliated in strong federations, with power, with good relations within the National Congress and with the Federal Government will have more power to defend their agendas and the interests of Amazonas”,

explained Carlos Santiago.

Negotiations

According to federal deputy Saullo Vianna (União Brasil), progress towards the establishment of the federation between União Brasil and Progressistas is already “quite underway” with the making of the party’s statute being established.

However, according to Deputy Saullo Vianna, there has not yet been a confirmation as to whether the acronym should be part of the union between the subtitles. “But, between UB and PP everything is right”.

The parliamentarian pointed out that the final decision on the officialization of the federation should come after the Carnival period. For him, the possible formation of a large group between União Brasil and Progressistas would be beneficial for both acronyms, “since we will have the largest group in the Chamber and the third largest in the Senate”, said the deputy.

The secretary of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, and president of União Brasil in Amazonas, Pauderney Avelino, highlighted In time that it is not easy to form a federation with two large parties like the Progressives and the UB, and that the next negotiations will resume next week.

In his assessment, in general terms, it is not possible to define whether the federation will be good or bad for União Brasil, and he highlighted that the acronyms will require a lot of dialogue. At the state level, he pointed out that Progressistas and União Brasil are allies in Amazonas, in that sense, the merger between the acronyms would have little impact.

“There wouldn’t be as much impact [com a federação]because the [Marcos] Rotta is the president of the PP. In theory, it is our ally, so it would not have such an impact or so much difficulty”,

he said.
