Alexandre Pires cancels cruise show after man throws himself into the sea

Singer Alexandre Pires canceled his show on the MSC Preziosa cruise after a passenger fell into the sea, from the balcony of his cabin, around half past midnight this Saturday (30). Other celebrities who are also on the ship, which will spend New Year’s Eve on the high seas, reported on their social media about the mood among the passengers since the accident. The victim remains missing.

The cruise, called “New Year’s Eve on High Seas”, left the port of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, this Saturday, and took passengers to see the New Year in Rio de Janeiro. This is the same ship used on Neymar’s cruise, which ended yesterday.

Among the passengers are funk singer MC Gui and his mother, Claudia Baronesa, who spoke about what happened on her social networks. “We are here waiting, ship stopped, show stopped, everything stopped,” she said. “Business is tense, it’s serious here. Serious and sad. The ship has been stopped for over an hour [..] Gui went to sleep, he doesn’t even know what’s happening on the ship […] It’s a night of mourning”, she said in a post in stories, on her Instagram profile.

In one of the videos, Baronesa says that she was looking forward to watching the show of her “idol”, Alexandre Pires. “People are going to sleep because we cannot continue [viagem]”, wrote the former participant of the reality show Power Couple. She regretted the cancellation of the performance, but sympathized with the disappearance. “The party that was supposed to be neon, and turned into mourning. Very sad about our first night on the ship and this event. Our sympathies go out to his family,” she wrote.

Also present on the ship is actor Mussunzinho, who shared scenes from shows that took place before the disappearance, on Friday night, of musician Vini Netto and the band Os Paralamas do Sucesso. During the afternoon, he posted videos alongside his sister, who accompanied him on the trip. So far, shows by artists such as Wesley Safadão, Léo Santana, Seu Jorge and Xande de Pilares are also planned. Cancelled, Alexandre Pires’ performance was scheduled to start at 1am this Saturday.

Searches continue

MSC Cruises said, in a statement, that a thorough search was carried out on board and it was confirmed that the guest intentionally jumped overboard.

“Two support boats searched for several hours, but despite great efforts to locate the guest, he has not yet been found. The incident was immediately reported to the competent authorities, and the Coast Guard released the ship to continue its journey,” said MSC Cruises.

Rescue work continues and the passenger has not yet been found. When contacted, the Navy has not yet responded. The Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo Fire Departments have no information.

Alexandre Pires regretted what happened

Singer Alexandre Pires, who was scheduled to perform at 1 am, regretted what happened. Through a note and post on social media, he expressed solidarity with the victim’s family.

“My condolences to the family and friends of the person who fell into the sea, from the balcony of their cabin, during the MSC Preziosa cruise, at around 00:30 today (30/12). I ask God to comfort everyone’s hearts at this time.

Out of respect for the victim and the rescue work, we spoke with the organization and reached a consensus not to hold the show, which was scheduled to start at 1am. We had not yet gone on stage when this tragic event happened.

Our mission is to bring joy and promote culture through music, which would not have been possible due to what happened. I apologize to the fans for the cancellation and everyone’s understanding of the decision we made.”
