Aleam project delivers a thousand basic food baskets to social institutions in Manaus

Manaus (AM) – The Participatory Assembly program of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas (Aleam) distributed a thousand basic food baskets to 10 social institutions in Manaus, this Friday (15). Next week, another three thousand basic food baskets will be delivered to other chosen institutions.

The president of the Legislative Assembly, Roberto Cidade (União Brasil), attended the event, accompanied by deputies Carlinhos Bessa (PV), Sinésio Campos (PT), João Luiz (Republicans) and Mário César Filho (União Brasil) and held the ceremony of symbolic delivery of basic food baskets to representatives of the institutions served.

The ceremony marks a year full of philanthropic actions, such as donating powdered milk and toys to children cared for by the Cancer Children’s Assistance Group (GACC) in October, helping with employee funerals and surgical procedures.

“This program that helps to minimize the suffering of the people of Manaus and Amazonas, today delivers a thousand basic food baskets to 10 institutions. Next week we will deliver another three thousand basic food baskets, the result of the work and unity of the servers”,

explained Roberto Cidade.

Cidade also added that he was happy to be able to carry out the action as president of the Assembly. “Aleam shows greatness by supporting and encouraging needy families in our state. Congratulations to the Participatory Assembly program, to all the employees involved, to all the directors and especially to the entire population that follows the Assembly”, he praised.

The deputy director general of the Legislative Assembly, Igor Pantoja, who coordinates the program, recalled that more than 40 institutions have already been covered and 30 employees have been served. “In this last action in 2023, six civil servants and their dependents will be covered, and today another 10 associations, will receive these basic food baskets, acquired through donations from civil servants, who voluntarily donate a monthly amount to the program. Next week, another 13 institutions will benefit on an itinerant basis,” he explained.

Institutions benefited

This Friday, the institutions that received the basic food baskets were the Associação Amigos Anjos da Guarda, in the Aleixo neighborhood; Morro da Liberdade Municipal Sports League; Professor Tereza Siqueira Assistance Center (Students); Instituto Autismo no Amazonas (Parque 10); Restore Institute (Nova Cidade); Residents and Community Association of Bairro Jesus Me Deu (Colônia Terra Nova); Green Hope Institution (Armando Mendes); Santa Rita de Cássia Missionary Area (Ouro Verde); Alvorada Community Association and Melo Morais Institute (Redenção).

Lilian Vasconcelos, general coordinator of Instituto Restaurar, stated that the donation of basic food baskets will make a big difference in the lives of around 400 socially vulnerable families served. “We serve adults aged 18 to 59, providing psychological assistance, professional courses, aimed at employability. And these baskets go to those families who are in extreme poverty. So, it will definitely make a difference to their Christmas dinner. We always talk, not only at Christmas, but certainly, always at this time, we need to open our hearts,” she said.

Together for a better society

The “Participatory Assembly” program is an initiative implemented through the voluntary contribution of employees and deputies of the Amazonas Legislative Assembly.

It is intended to provide support to institutions that work in favor of citizenship, social assistance, health, sport, music, culture and leisure, as well as active and inactive employees of the aforementioned Legislative House, including their dependents who are proven to be in vulnerable situation.

The program is maintained through donations made through authorization for payroll deduction, a procedure that employees can choose to adhere to. To do so, interested parties must contact the Social Assistance Directorate or the Deputy General Directorate, where they can fill out the corresponding form to authorize the aforementioned payroll deduction.
