Pronaf Agroecologia is financing for farmers and rural producers

Brasilia DF) – Federal deputy Captain Alberto Neto forwarded Indication n.1446/23, to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, to increase investment in the National Program for Strengthening Family Farming (Pronaf) Agroecology in Amazonas.

Pronaf Agroecologia is financing for farmers and rural producers (individuals) to invest in agroecological or organic production systems, including costs related to the implementation and maintenance of the enterprise.

“Eco-based agriculture and organic food production are gaining relevance around the world. In Brazil it is being driven, especially by the expansion of demand for healthy foods. The sector grows every year, although it remains relatively marginalized in the agenda of agricultural policy priorities practiced in the country”,

declared the parliamentarian.

According to data from the Central Bank of Brazil, since 2013, approximately R$39 million reais have been invested, of which in Amazonas it was only R$7 thousand reais, which is equivalent to less than 0.02%. In the period, 2013 until May 2021, 2,208 contracts were carried out, with only (01) one in Amazonas, remembering that we have 98% of preserved forests.

“In Amazonas, there are several experiences of sustainable agriculture, with emphasis on diversified production systems, such as agroforestry systems anchored by species diversity, which provide stability and good performance of ecological processes. These systems, when planned with the objective of generating income for producers, are quite efficient and productive”,

said Captain Alberto Neto.

Pronaf ABC+ Agroecology

Financing is directed to farmers and rural producers for investments in agroecological production systems, with up to 100% of the value of items financeable by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), which is the largest financier of investments in Brazilian agriculture.

The program has two forms of granting credit: individual – formalized with a producer, for individual purposes; and collective – formalized with a group of producers, for collective purposes.

Among the styles of agriculture, the following stand out: Organic Agriculture, Agroforestry Systems, Biological Agriculture, Biodynamic Agriculture and Permaculture.
