Alap holds Solemn Session in celebration of the II Amapá Africa Amazon 2023 Week – News of Brazil

With the theme: ”Writing the Black Presence in Amapá” The II Amapá Africa Amazon 2023 Week, held from May 19 to 25, brought together authorities from Amapa, Africa and Guyana in the plenary of the Legislative Assembly of Amapá during a formal session on the morning of this Monday, 22.
The celebration meets the request of the state deputy and 1st vice president of the board of directors of Alap, Jaime Perez, and aims to strengthen the black movement, as well as to disseminate African culture in our days, seeking to reinforce the fight against racial inequality and ethnic prejudice.
”The Legislative Assembly will always be with open arms for all peoples and defending our race and our culture is of extreme importance. Unfortunately, in the middle of the 21st century, we still experience very strong racism around the world and that affects everyone, regardless of social class. For this reason, this union is essential in order to strengthen the fight against any type of prejudice”, said the MP.
Former state deputy Cristina Almeida, is the author of the Bill that created Africa Week throughout the state of Amapá, in reference to International Africa Day and, for her, who has always been active in favor of black causes, the objective greater was to effect, to perpetuate in the history of Amapá these bonds that can never be forgotten. ”We cannot forget where we come from, in addition to an educational focus, the creation of this bill will always be the strengthening of the culture of identity, so that we can praise everything that still remains today, whether in gastronomy, clothing, dance. Our culture helps to foster the economy of our state and I am very happy to celebrate within this space of the Legislative Assembly that, once again, opened the doors for us to celebrate this very important moment”.
For the Secretary of International Relations and Foreign Trade of the state, Lucas Abrahao, the understanding that relations between Brazil and Africa are relations between brothers, is very significant for there to be an understanding in Amapa society that we are also Africans in our history and in our tradition. ”We need to understand that we are very African indeed, our mara bass, our drumming, our cuisine, our municipality of Mazagão, everything goes back to that past that brought us this heritage. Exactly for this reason, we need even more, especially one day after an internationally recognized Brazilian athlete suffered so much discrimination, to understand that racial prejudice spares no one and the best way to fight it is through education and public policies, affirmative actions that preserve and fight such cruel and unfair attitudes”he said.
The executive coordinator of the Food and Nutritional Security Forum of the Traditional Peoples of the African Matrix (Fonsapotma/Amapá), the yalorisha mother Carmem de Oyá, recalled the resistance rooted in society for so many years in relation to African matrix religions. ”We potmas are a reference for peoples of African origins in Amapá; we must be a showcase for other states, so that they too do whatever is necessary so that we can, in a way, be repaired for everything that we have already suffered with prejudice and violence against our religiosity. Africa week strengthens us and, getting where we are, in the spaces of power, shows all our strength and struggle for our rights”assured.
The ceremony was also attended by Josephine Egalgi, deputy mayor of Remire-Montjoly, in French Guiana, the president of the Academy of Batuque and Maraçou do Amapá, Raimundo Sacaca, 2nd vice president of the Court of Auditors of Amapá, counselor Paulo Roberto de Oliveira Martins, state deputy Edna Auzier who chairs the Alap Foreign Affairs Commission, Nuno Coelho, president of Black Pastoral Agents, Celestin Degnide, supreme African evangelist and other authorities.
