The Advocacy-General of the Union (AGU) made a request to the Federal Court of the Federal District to increase the amount to be blocked from people and companies that are suspected of having financed acts of vandalism at the headquarters of the Three Powers, in Brasília, on 8 of January. Initially, the Court granted the AGU’s request and ordered the blocking of BRL 6.5 million from 52 individuals and seven legal entities. But, in the new order, the amount rose to 18.5 million.

According to the AGU, the values were updated due to the inclusion of estimates of the damage caused to the Palácio do Planalto and to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) building. The first request brought only the preliminary figures regarding the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. “[Trata-se do] value capable of ensuring the effective and due compensation to the federal treasury for the damages caused due to the depredation of the buildings of the three Powers of the Republic”, said the agency.

The Subcommittee for Legal Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic estimated at R$ 7.9 million the damage to the assets of the Planalto Palace. The calculations of the Federal Supreme Court were R$ 5.9 million in damage to its building.

In addition, the value of the new AGU request takes into account the update of the losses informed by the General Directorate of the Chamber of Deputies. The Legislative House said that the damage was R$ 1.1 million. The amount, however, does not include the restoration of damaged works of art, the destruction and subtraction of protocol gifts.

In the first request – for the blockade of BRL 6.5 million – the agency informed that it was an initial amount and that it was based on the preliminary estimate of material damages calculated by the Senate (BRL 3.5 million) and by the Chamber of Deputies Deputies (R$ 3.03 million).

“Thus, adding the damages initially pointed out by the Federal Senate, by the Chamber of Deputies (now with information rectified by the respective body), by the Civil House/Palácio do Planalto and by the Federal Supreme Court, it comes to the amount of BRL 18,503,831 .25 (eighteen million, five hundred and three thousand, eight hundred and thirty-one reais and twenty-five cents)”, said AGU.

The list of targets for the blockade was drawn up in the first request made to the Federal Court and had the assistance of the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT). So far, only those who hired buses seized for transporting people who would have participated in acts of violence in the federal capital have been included.

The request was forwarded to the federal judge of the 8th Federal Court of the Judiciary Section of the Federal District. It was signed by four Union lawyers: Marcelo Eugenio Feitosa Almeida, who is the Federal Attorney General; Flávio Tenório Cavalcanti de Medeiros, deputy attorney general of the Union in the 1st Region; Raniere Rocha Lins, general coordinator for the Defense of Probity; and Vanir Fridriczewski.
