Agreement reduces Wallace’s sentence and removes suspension from CBV – 05/16/2023 – Sport

The CBV (Brazilian Volleyball Confederation) and the COB (Brazilian Olympic Committee) reached an agreement this Monday (15) that reduced the suspension of player Wallace, from Sada Cruzeiro, from five years to 90 days.

The agreement was intermediated by AGU (Advocacy General of the Union) and ends the ethical process of the COB Ethics Council against the opposite, in addition to withdrawing the suspension of the entity that manages national volleyball.

“The intention of the sports entities, the Advocacy General of the Union and the COB Ethics Council was to preserve the preparation of Brazilian athletes and national teams, adult and youth, in volleyball and beach volleyball, until the end of the Paris 2024 cycle” , says a note released by the COB.

The punishment of the Brazilian national team player was a controversy between the COB Ethics Council and the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice).

He had been suspended for three months because, at the end of January, he published a photo on his Instagram account in a shooting club, with a gun in his hand and opened the application’s question box to answer questions from followers.

One of them questioned whether he would use the gun to shoot President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The player responded by opening a poll asking who would do that.

In May, the COB Ethics Council increased the suspension to five years and determined that CBV be disconnected from the COB system for six months, which would prevent it from receiving financial transfers, including from lotteries.

The reason for the increased punishment was non-compliance with the penalty, as Wallace entered the court in the final of the men’s volleyball Super League, between Minas Tênis x Sada/Cruzeiro

The severity of the punishment stunned committee officials and led to a discussion about how to respond.

Through the agreement, CBV and COB committed to promoting an educational program aimed at athletes, coaches and managers of the confederations for the correct use of social media.

Wallace will again serve the 90-day suspension period and the suspension was maintained for one year from calls or participation in the Brazilian national team.

In addition, COB does not recognize the validity of the result of the game Minas Tênis x Sada/Cruzeiro due to the participation of an athlete, who should be removed by determination of the Ethics Council.

The CBV will have to finance the ethical posture program for athletes on social networks, under the coordination of the COB. Other punishments were removed from the entity and Radamés Latari, president of the CBV.

“The CBV reaffirms that it does not condone acts of incitement to violence, as manifested from the beginning. The moment is to resume the values ​​of sport as an instrument of union and not as a means of inciting rivalries”, says a note from the sports body.
