After visiting Cuba, Lula will meet with Biden next Wednesday
Already in New York (USA) to participate in the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), President Lula (PT) has two appointments scheduled with the President of the United States, Joe Biden. According to the communications department at Palácio do Planalto, the PT member will have a closed meeting with Biden next Wednesday (20), the same day he will also participate in the launch of a North American government program in compliance with the 2030 Agenda of the UN.
This will be the second meeting of the presidents since Lula assumed his third term. The two met in February, when they discussed combating climate change.
Lula arrived in New York last Saturday night (16), after participating in the G77 + China Summit, in Havana, the capital of Cuba, where he had a private meeting with the Cuban dictator, Miguel Díaz-Canel.
The topics discussed between the PT member and the Cuban dictator were not disclosed, nor were the issues that will be discussed in private with Joe Biden.
The program that Lula will participate in the launch alongside Biden is called “decent work” and is part of the list of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed in the “global pact” of the 2030 Agenda created by the UN in 2015.
The Brazilian government classified the initiative as an “advancement of labor rights in the 21st century economy”. The event will also be attended by Brazilian and American trade unionists.
When speaking at the G77, Lula condemned the economic embargo imposed on Cuba by the USA. The PT member also took the opportunity to pay a “personal visit” to the former Cuban dictator, Raúl Castro. The commitment was not part of the official agenda.
