After the governor’s request, the Ministry of Justice guarantees support from the National Force in combating fires in Amapá – News of Brazil

The fight against fires in Amapá will be reinforced during this drought. Following a request made by Governor Clécio Luís, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security guaranteed the sending of men from the National Security Force and equipment to assist in work in affected areas.
This federative cooperation was made official in a meeting between Clécio Luís and the executive secretary of the Ministry, Ricardo Cappelli, at the organization’s headquarters in Brasília, on Friday, 24th, after coordination by senator Randolfe Rodrigues.
“Minister Flávio Dino’s determination is to immediately respond to the governor’s request at this delicate time of fires, to preserve the biome, the Amazon forest and the air quality that is threatened by the smoke that afflicts the population. We have already started mobilization, with the National Force, which is a force made up of men provided by the states in federative cooperation”, stated the executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
“The Federal Government has already helped us a lot in dealing with the emergencies that we are experiencing in Amapá, and now we have received further reinforcement for this final stretch of the drought that should last for another month. We will have support from men, vehicles, equipment, logistics, to face the fires and the worst air quality ever identified in Amapá, which have consequences for agriculture, fish farming, fishing, but mainly for people’s health”, he thanked Governor Clécio Luís.
Immediate operation
48 public security professionals who are part of the National Force will arrive in the state next week, the majority of whom will be from Pará.
Equipment such as firefighting pickup trucks was also guaranteed, which allows access to more difficult places in the middle of the forest; motor pumps; blowers that employ containment especially over the fire line; and backpacks that help cool areas that have already had their first firefight, putting out small outbreaks. The material begins to leave Brasília on Sunday, 26th, heading to Amapá.
Reinforcement occurs mainly against fires in forest and rural areas, in direct fire fighting, cooling, aftermath and in the construction of cold lines.
This is not the first time that the Federal Government has reinforced its work to combat fires in Amapá. This November, Operation Cabo Orange, with firefighters from the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) and the Amapá Fire Department, made efforts to combat the outbreaks in the Cabo Orange National Park. The work, which has assistance from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), continues in the region until the beginning of December.
