After pressure, the government commits to complying with the amendment schedule vetoed by Lula

The federal government committed to complying with the payment schedule for amendments provided for in the Budget Guidelines Law (LDO) of 2024. The measure was vetoed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The agreement was reached amid pressure from Congress to resolve the budget impasse. The text of the LDO, approved by parliamentarians, provides for the execution of mandatory parliamentary amendments by June 30, the deadline for transfers due to municipal elections.

The government estimates the transfer of R$14.5 billion to the areas of health and social assistance. The Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, met this Thursday (22) with deputies from the Mixed Budget Committee (CMO) to discuss the issue.

After the meeting, the minister stated that the government “wants to establish the absolute priority of the commitment and payment of these health and social assistance values ​​in the electoral calendar so that it allows the transfer of these resources until the deadline for the electoral seal, which is the 30th. of June. So we are reaffirming this commitment.”

The rapporteur of the Budget Guidelines Law (LDO), deputy Danilo Forte (União-CE), was pushing for an extraordinary session to analyze Lula’s vetoes in Congress. Lula also cut R$5.6 billion in committee amendments from the Budget. Padilha and parliamentarians scheduled a new meeting for March 7 to discuss presidential vetoes.
