One day after meeting with Celso Amorim, foreign policy advisor to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the end of Russia’s war against Ukraine will only be possible through what he calls “peace formula”.
The statement was posted by him on twitter on the morning of this Thursday (11), in which he maintains his position on the Russian invasion of the territory.
“I met with the special foreign policy adviser to the President of the Republic, Celso Amorim. I emphasized that the only plan capable of stopping Russian aggression in Ukraine is the Ukrainian Formula of Peace. We discussed the possibility of holding the Ukraine-Latin America Summit. I look forward to continuing the dialogue with President Lula and welcoming him to Ukraine,” he said.
The message comes a day after Celso Amorim stated that “it will not be easy to reach a confluence” of concessions between Ukraine and Russia to establish a peace agreement. The ambassador went to the European country to try to contain the crisis caused by Lula’s statements about responsibility for the war.
“Of course, Zelensky has his positions, but I think that’s how we’re progressing”, completed Amorim. Shortly after the meeting, the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Melnyk, stated that “Brazil can play an important role in stopping Russian aggression and achieving a lasting and just peace”.
Ukrainians expect more balanced position from Lula
According to a statement released this Thursday (11) by the Ukrainian government, Celso Amorim was informed in detail about the situation of the Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory, such as the actions of the Russian occupiers, in particular, the recent missile attacks against civilian infrastructure and citizens Ukrainians (see in full).
Roman Mashovets, head of the Cabinet of State, also expressed hope for an “even more balanced position by Brazil” and personally by President Lula in relation to Russian armed aggression against Ukraine.
Andriy Yermak, also head of the Cabinet of State, said that he thanks the Brazilian president for “involving Ukraine” in the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) and the European Union, to be held in July in Brussels, and reiterated the invitation for him to visit the country at an opportune moment.
