After Lula announces Lewandowski in court, opposition criticizes ‘political partnership’

This Thursday (11), following the announcement by President Lula (PT) who confirmed the former minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Ricardo Lewandowski, as the new Minister of Justice and Public Security, opposition parliamentarians criticized the “partnership policy” between the PT government and the STF.

Lewandowski will fill the vacancy left by Flávio Dino, who is leaving the department to occupy a seat on the STF after Lula’s nomination was approved by the Senate last year. Lewandowski was also nominated to the Supreme Court by Lula during the PT member’s first term, in 2006.

During his work at the STF, Lewandowski collected a series of decisions favorable to Lula and the PT.

“He is a lawyer, he has no training in Public Security, perhaps he is more focused on the Ministry of Justice itself. What draws attention is that not long ago, Lewandowski’s former colleague, the minister (of the STF) Alexandre de Moraes, suspended the appointment of Alexandre Ramagem (made by former president Jair Bolsonaro) to command the Federal Police for considering the issue of impersonality, that is, that Ramagem would be very close to Bolsonaro, and Lula himself was the one who nominated Lewandowski for the STF in 2006”, said the deputy when remembering the challenges that will be faced by the new minister.

“Public Security has been in serious trouble in recent months. In 2023 we had alarming situations. In 2024, these situations will continue, such as the recent murder of a police officer by a criminal who was on temporary leave”, added Marcon.

“Although there is no legal impediment, it is a mockery. It is not a surprise, because we know that this government acts in this way, with total disregard for morality in public administration. It is also a confirmation of the intimate relationship and political partnership between the PT government and the Federal Supreme Court. This is without taking into account Mr Lewandowski’s total incompetence with the issue of Public Security”, stated the deputy.

“(The appointment) is the responsibility of the President of the Republic. The only memory I have of Lewandowski was the day he, as president of the Senate session on the impeachment of Dilma, tore up the Constitution and guaranteed political rights to the ousted president. It was an attack on our Constitution”, said the parliamentarian.

For federal deputy Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ), the choice of the new minister shows that “there is no longer any independence between the powers”.

“Lewandowski left the STF and Dino left the Ministry of Justice. Dino went to the STF and Lewandowski went to the Ministry of Justice.
