O saints announced, on the morning of this Friday (23), Paulo Turra as the team’s new coach. A week after being fired from Athletico, he takes on a new challenge and replaces Odair Hellman, who was fired on Thursday (22) after the defeat against Corinthians.
Altogether, Turra led the Rubro-Negro in 35 matches, with 24 wins, 4 draws and 7 losses, with a 72% success rate.
Paulo Turra was invited by Felipão to return to the role of assistant at Atlético-MG, but he refused to remain in charge of Athletico. However, by decision of CEO Alexandre Mattos, with the endorsement of President Mario Celso Petraglia, he was advised of his dismissal last week.
The coach made a good start to his work for Athletico, with results and the undefeated title of the Campeonato Paranaense. But, as happened with Felipão’s period, the performances below expectations, with a quality cast, worried the fans.
Despite this, the good numbers kept the commander – Turra reached 82%, the best performance in Brazil, last month. He came to “swing” twice in office: first after the defeat to Galo himself, for the Brasileirão; then, with the sequence of four straight defeats, but the classification on penalties over Botafogo held him back.
Before Turra, Peixe even considered Fabio Carille for the function. Odair Hellmann left Santos after 34 matches, with 11 wins, 12 draws and 11 defeats. The team occupies the 13th position in the table, with 13 points.
Turra will have a one-year contract at Santos. Against Flamengo, in Vila Belmiro, for the 12th round of the Braisleirão, Peixe will be led by Paulo Roberto Falcão.
