According to the agency, more than 2,000 false advertisements with illicit content were identified in a period of 62 days. As a result, the fine imposed against the company could reach R$9.3 million. In a note, Senacon stated that “Meta did not demonstrate the adoption of appropriate measures to prevent such broadcasts” and that, if the situation was not regularized, the company could receive more serious punishments. After opening the administrative process, Facebook’s headquarters in Brazil will have 20 days to present a defense. The secretariat’s order makes it clear that, if the defense is not presented within the deadline, the company may suffer “relevant legal consequences”.
