Amazon: anyone who misses the in-person meeting will have difficulties – 12/04/2023 – Market

Amazon warned employees that the chances of promotion are lower for those who are not complying with the company’s in-person work policy.
The requirement to appear three times a week at the online shopping giant’s offices began in May, following the market trend of reversing the flexibilization of work that occurred during the pandemic years.
Now, promotion requests for employees who have not followed the required frequency must go through an additional stage of leadership approval, according to a November report on the Business Insider website.
Brad Glasser, a company spokesman, told CNN that there are several factors that determine an employee’s approval for a higher position. “Like any company, we expect employees considered for promotion to comply with company guidelines and policies,” he said.
Amazon and other large technology companies adopted the hybrid work regime this year. Even Zoom, whose platform grew a lot due to home working, requested a return to in-person.
In August, a Financial Times report showed that Amazon was tracking attendance at its employees’ offices in the US.
The company, which has avoided mass job cuts for most of its existence, began its biggest layoffs about a year ago, eliminating 27,000 office positions after a hiring spree during the pandemic left the company saturated.
Amazon further deepened the cuts when it announced another 9,000 layoffs in March, which would affect its cloud services division, human resources, advertising and live streaming service Twitch, according to CEO Andy Jassy.
Since then, the company has continued to pursue cost cuts, sometimes leading to more layoffs. The company recently made layoffs in its games division and closed physical clothing stores.
