After fraud with Lula, TSE reinforces security for party affiliation

The Superior Electoral Court introduced two-step authentication into the Party Affiliation System (Filia). The initiative aims to increase the security of the System and prevent fraud, such as that which occurred when President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva joined the Liberal Party (PL), the party of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
From February onwards, after registering the data in Filia, it will be necessary to confirm the information through the e-Título application. For the update to be implemented, the Party Membership System will be unavailable from January 13th until the beginning of February.
The measure was taken following the accusation of fraud in Lula’s party affiliation, carried out on Thursday (11) by the newspaper The globe. On Friday (12) Federal Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes sent information so that the Federal Police could investigate the case.
According to the TSE system, the president was formally disconnected from the Workers’ Party (PT) and linked to the PL since July 15, 2023. The procedure has already been reversed and Lula is now listed as a member of the PT.
The inclusion of the data that affiliated Lula to the PL would have been made by the lawyer Ana Daniela Leite e Aguiar, who provides services to the PT, but the party denied having carried out the procedure.
According to the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, the opposite movement was made with deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG). About two months ago, he was unregistered from the party and joined the PT.
The TSE clarified that it provides a password for party administrators, responsible for registrations in the Filia system. Membership is only refused in the event of an error in the registration data. When there are two affiliations, the most recent one prevails.
