Volleyball player Wallace, from Cruzeiro, was suspended for 90 days by the Ethics Council of COB (Brazilian Olympic Committee). The punishment was decided on trial this Monday (3). There is no possibility of appeal.
The hook began on February 3, when the athlete was provisionally removed, and will end on May 3. With that, he no longer acts in the Men’s Super League this season. He is also banned from representing the Brazilian national team for a year, despite having already announced that he would no longer play for the team.
At the end of January, he opened up the space for questions in his Instagram comment box. One of his 351,000 followers asked if he would shoot the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in the face. Wallace asked if anyone would do that.
Shortly after, he deleted the post.
For the COB Ethics Council, there was the practice of “an unethical act of promoting and inciting violence through the internet and social networks”.
Counselor and former swimmer Joanna Maranhão declared herself prevented from voting for being a declared supporter of Lula.
The player had been notified of an infringement by the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice), but the body filed the complaint because it believed there was no relationship between the posting and the sport played by Wallace.
In the days following the fact, the AGU (Advocacia Geral da União) had asked the COB Ethics Council to ban Wallace from the sport and impose a fine of R$ 100,000, which did not happen.
After the negative repercussion of the post, Wallace recorded a video apologizing.
“I’m apologizing. It was an unfortunate post that I ended up making. I made a mistake,” he acknowledged.
