The Human Rights Commission (CDH) of the Senate approved, this Wednesday (5), a bill that determines the collection of data related to the LGBT population in demographic censuses and in other surveys carried out by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics ( IBGE).
The proposal adds a paragraph to article 2 of Law 8.184/1991, which provides for demographic censuses: “The research instruments of demographic censuses will mandatorily contain quantitative and qualitative inquiries about the LGBTQIA+ population (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals, queer, intersex, asexual and other identities), in a way that allows recognition of their sexual and gender identity.”
The proposal, reported by Senator Paulo Paim (PT-RS), is now being analyzed by the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ).
