The saying goes that advertising is the soul of business. And when it comes to developing high-performance sporting goods, there’s no better publicity than breaking world records.
Spreading records is the mission of Adizero Road to Records 2023, a closed event that Adidas promotes this weekend at the company’s headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
It is not an ordinary competition. First, only Adidas-sponsored athletes can participate. Only those who obtained relevant results in recent months are invited. The victory also does not count towards the world ranking effect, nor does it guarantee advantages for the riders in the season.
Even so, the Adizero Road to Records 2023 won a prominent place on the international athletics calendar for managing to deliver what it sets out to do: breaking national, continental and world records. By respecting the rules established by World Athletics, the marks obtained in Herzogenaurach are homologated and count as official records.
Two still-standing world athletics records were set at Herzogenaurach. Ethiopian Senbere Teferi set the world’s best 5k mark (14min29sec), while Kenyan Agnes Jebet Tirop broke the 10k record (30min01sec), both in the 2021 edition.
On Saturday, the 5km, 10km and half marathon (21k) events will be held, both for men and women. Approximately 120 athletes will participate in the competition.
The tests will be broadcast live on Youtube from 2:00 am on Saturday (Brasília time).
