Abraji (Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism) and JusBrasil signed a partnership to facilitate journalists’ access to legal data.
Procedural information is public, but is often difficult to access. As a result, journalists who work on investigative reports related to the Judiciary may face complications in finding this information due to the system’s bureaucracies.
According to Katia Brembatti, president of Abraji, the new tool will be important because even experienced journalists find it difficult to search for judicial information on the different platforms and different systems offered by the country’s courts.
“Access to Jusbrasil will greatly facilitate this search and the provision of precise information of public interest in the reports”, he says.
The feature is only available to entity members. Among the features, professionals can view the records of various lawsuits available on Jusbrasil.
It is also possible to search the platform by names and keywords.
“Journalistic activity has special constitutional protection conferred by the fundamental right to freedom of expression (art. 5°, inc. IV of the Federal Constitution of Brazil)”, says the text of the term of use of the tool, which also helps to explain the importance of the initiative.
Also according to the document, the reports do not only involve the publication of informative content in different formats and vehicles, but also the collection, analysis, processing, treatment, investigation, verification and verification of information of public interest.
