Abin: Dismissed says he sent everything about software to the PF – 01/31/2024 – Power

The former number 2 of Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) stated that, by his determination, as acting director general, an internal investigation into the irregular use of software with the capacity to obtain cell phone georeferencing information was initiated.

Alessandro Moretti also said, in a note released this Wednesday (31), that all the evidentiary material collected and produced by the agency in this investigation was shared with the Federal Police, which is investigating the political apparatus of the agency under the administration of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) .

Amid the repercussion of the case known as “Parallel Abin”, Moretti was dismissed from his position as deputy director this Tuesday (30) by President Lula (PT). By dismissing Moretti, who is a PF delegate, Lula approved Luiz Fernando Corrêa’s continued leadership of the organization, who then promoted the change of six other directors of the intelligence agency.

In the statement released this Wednesday, Moretti stated that “much of the material that informs the PF investigation is the result of the investigation carried out with total independence at Abin”.

“It is important to remember that Abin is in a transition phase, after ceasing to be subordinate to the Institutional Security Office-GSI and becoming part of the structure of the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic”, he stated.

“Several measures were adopted and many others are being implemented by the current management to modernize the Agency’s management, which also guaranteed the aforementioned broad and independent investigation.”

Moretti said that no country, especially a continental nation like Brazil, can do without professional intelligence that complies with the principles that govern the democratic rule of law.

“The strategic knowledge disseminated by Abin, indispensable for the country and essential for the protection of our society, is produced by highly qualified and committed professionals.”

He defended the “constant search” to strengthen Abin as a State institution.

Abin says that the exchanges are not related to the investigations, they were already scheduled and follow the body’s reformulation schedule started last year.

The intelligence agency is at the center of a crisis involving investigations into the possible setting up of a parallel espionage structure during the Bolsonaro administration.

The Federal Police has already carried out three operations authorized by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) and, among other points, claims that there was “collusion” between the current management of the intelligence agency and those being investigated.

Moretti’s presence in office began to be challenged after he was cited in the operation launched last week. According to the PF, he participated in a meeting with representatives of Abin employees, in March 2023, and said that the investigation into the agency had a “political basis” and would pass.

In the document, the PF said that Moretti’s stance is not what was expected from a delegate who, until December 2022, held the role of Intelligence Director of the Federal Police.

He denies any action with the intention of trying to stop the investigations. Intelligence specialist Marco Cepik, current director of the Abin Intelligence School, assumed the position of deputy director.
