ABC fan is shot during fight between fans and dies

A 26-year-old man, whose name was not released, died after being shot in the head in a confrontation involving fans organized by ABC and Sport, on Friday night (15), after a game in the 28th round of Series B. of the Brazilian Championship.

The death was confirmed by the Military Police and the Civil Police, which will investigate the crime through the Homicide and Personal Protection Division.

According to the Military Police, the case happened after the end of the match. While moving the convoy of vehicles with Sport fans, one of the buses with members of an organized fan group stopped on Avenida Engenheiro Roberto Freire and the occupants clashed with ABC fans, near Praça dos Gringos, in Ponta Negra.

At the scene, according to the PM, there were gunshots, the perpetrator of which has not yet been identified. In the conflict, the 26-year-old victim was shot.

“The police personnel who were providing the escort and vehicles that reinforced the area arrived at the scene of the confrontation, but the person who fired the shots was not located. The victim was rescued and taken to Clóvis Sarinho Hospital, where, unfortunately, he did not survive his serious injuries and died,” the corporation said in a statement.

The Civil Police confirmed that the incident took place at the intersection of Palestine Street and Leonora Armstrong Street, in Praça dos Gringos.

In the same note, the RN PM reported that “initially, outside the Frasqueirão stadium, in Rota do Sol, there was confusion in which the military personnel carrying out patrols identified an individual who fired fire. After an approach, it was discovered that he was a Military Police Officer from Pernambuco, who was detained, had his weapon seized and was taken to the Parnamirim Duty Station for the appropriate legal procedures.”

On the field, Sport beat bottom side ABC 1-0, with a goal from Diego Souza, in the 44th minute of the second half.

The Military Police informs that, during the security operation at the match between ABC and Sport-PE, last Friday night (15), incidents occurred involving members of the teams’ organized fans, in the South Zone of Natal.

There were some gunshots at the scene, from an unidentified author, and unfortunately, this conflict resulted in the death of a 26-year-old young man. The police force that was providing the escort and vehicles that reinforced the area arrived at the scene of the confrontation, but the person who fired the shots was not located.

The victim was rescued and taken to Clóvis Sarinho Hospital, where, unfortunately, he did not survive his serious injuries and died. The case will be investigated by the Civil Police. The Military Police reaffirms its commitment to Serving and Protecting Rio Grande do Sul society.
