‘A Night of Hope’ nativity scene exhibition reaches 3,000 visitors in three days

Exhibition brings even greater meaning as it celebrates the 800th anniversary of the creation of the nativity scene by Saint Francis of Assisi

Manaus (AM) – The exhibition “Uma Noite de Esperança”, which takes place at Casa das Artes, Rua José Clemente, Largo de São Sebastião, has already reached 3 thousand visitors in three days of operation. Featuring more than 45 works of Christian reference, the exhibition is part of the Enchanted World of Christmas and portrays the birthplace of the baby Jesus. There are nativity scenes made of the most diverse types of materials and designs on display.

Casa das Artes is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 5pm to 9pm, and entry is free. The exhibition is promoted by the State Government, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, in partnership with the Custody of the Capuchin Friars Minor of Amazonas and Roraima and the Capuchin Museum.

In addition to its artistic representation, the exhibition brings even greater meaning as it celebrates the 800th anniversary of the creation of the nativity scene by Saint Francis of Assisi, in 1223, in the city of Greccio, Italy. Since then, it has become a universal habit to set up nativity scenes at this time of year.

They are nativity scenes made with different materials, sizes, colors and characteristics such as metal, paper, porcelain, crochet resin, crystal, straw, among others. The collection contains works selected in the nativity scene competition, launched by the São Sebastião Church, as well as pieces displayed in cultural spaces and others donated by families during the exhibition.

According to the producer and curator of the exhibition, Jessilda Furtado, last year, the exhibition occupied the Centro Cultural Povos da Amazônia (CCPA), where it brought together a significant audience, setting a precedent for a new project.

“The exhibition came to Casa das Artes to compose this Largo de São Sebastião scenario. In front of the lyre at Teatro Amazonas, we have a larger nativity scene, which is becoming a circuit, because the public can see the French nativity scene inside the Church of São Sebastião, made of plaster, iron, wood and human-sized. And there is also the Gebes Medeiros Theater, with most of the works being inside the Casa das Artes”,

Small artisans

A new feature in this edition is the room where nativity scenes made by children are located. The coordinator of the Capuchin Museum in Amazonas and Roraima, brother Raul Falcon, celebrates the initiative as part of the project.

“We gave the children the opportunity to demonstrate how they see the birth of the baby Jesus, so they made their nativity scenes,” said the friar, adding that the children belong to several parishes in the capital and had their work selected. Still in this room, children can watch a cartoon about the story of Saint Francis of Assisi.
