A firefighter from Amapá wins a silver medal in the ‘Steel Firefighter’ operational techniques competition. – Diary of Amapá

The Amapá Fire Department (CBM-AP) was very well represented in the competition of operational techniques “Steel Firefighter”, which took place in João Pessoa, Paraíba. Major Lívia Nascimento, competed on an equal footing, against men and women from various corporations in Brazil, in tests of technical and, mainly, mental strength, to guarantee the silver medal.
In addition to Amapá, the national tournament brought together more than 90 firefighters from the states of Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Pernambuco, Tocantins, Bahia, Ceará, Pará and the Federal District. The tests took place on Thursday (17).
To climb the podium, Major Lívia faced an operational circuit divided into four phases with obstacles that simulate activities inherent to the profession of the military firefighter. Three other firefighters were also part of the team from Amapá, baptized in the event of “Inoxidáveis”. The commander of the Amapá Fire Department, Colonel Alexandre Veríssimo accompanied the group.
“I am grateful for the authorization and support of the State Government and the CBM General Command that allowed us to travel and participate in the event. I confess, with great humility, that we weren’t aiming for the podium, but I had the grateful satisfaction of making a good time. I feel honored to have projected the flag of the Amapá Firefighters and the flag of our state in the competition”emphasized medalist Major Lívia.
Now the group is preparing for the next stage of the Steel Firefighter, one of the most anticipated, which will take place in the schedule of the 21st edition of the National Seminar of Firefighters (Senabom), on the 4th, 5th and 6th of October, in Gramado, Rio de Janeiro. Great South.
“This is an extremely important competition for military firefighters, as it works on various skills and abilities through sport and is healthy competition. Our goal, after this prominent position, is to promote events like this one here in Amapá, bringing other troops to our state. Now it’s time to work with the team to represent our corporation well at Senabom. This is our objective”, he said confidently to the soldier.

The competition, which takes place with stages in several states of Brazil, aims to stimulate the military’s aptitude and show the public the strength of the firefighters’ profession, demonstrating the work of training and improvement in the execution of the techniques used in the daily operational service.
The firefighter-competitor starts the test wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protective equipment (RPE), specific clothing for fire situations. In the next phase, the firefighter performs the steps that require the physical capacity of fighting fire, simulating the reality of what happens in an occurrence.
In this stage, a series of tasks are carried out, such as climbing a staircase of a four-story building carrying a hose, breaking into a structure, fighting a fire and rescuing a victim, represented by a doll weighing 80 kilos by 30 meters. Whoever completes all phases in the shortest amount of time wins.
