Lula wants attorney general immune to “betrayal”; listen to podcast
[ad_1]
President Lula’s (PT) appointment to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) turned into a real tug of war. On the one hand, a wing of the PT has moved so that the president reappoints Augusto Aras for another term at the head of the body, according to the assessment that the prosecutor had a “coherent” management in the Federal Public Ministry (MPF). On the other hand, the electoral deputy attorney general, Paulo Gonet, has the PT’s sympathy for having defended the ineligibility of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the trial at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
The matter must be resolved soon, although there is still some room for the matter to be decided. Aras’ current term ends in September and the Planalto Palace expects Lula to make this new nomination by the end of August.
But the behind-the-scenes movements for the choice happen in spite of the triple list released by the National Association of Public Prosecutors (ANPR), which does not contain either of these two names. In 2019, when Bolsonaro disregarded the triple list, the PT classified the attitude as “the biggest setback in 20 years”.
