Boulos: Nunes proved to be more Bolsonarist than Tarcísio – 07/08/2023 – Panel

Federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) says that the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), “became more Bolsonarist” than Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) during the course of the tax reform in the Chamber of Deputies. The two should face each other in 2024, in the São Paulo City Hall elections.
Boulos states that “even Tarcísio sought to negotiate, recognized the advances and achieved more positive points for the state, while he [Nunes] went to Brasilia to take a photo with Bolsonaro and attack the reform, just like the new boss”.
Nunes was one of the most active members of the National Front of Mayors and opposed the reform on the grounds that replacing the Tax on Services of Any Nature (ISS) would mean a significant loss of revenue for the capital.
He met with Valdemar Costa Neto, president of the PL, and Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to discuss the tax reform. The former president started a movement to stop the approval of the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution, but was defeated.
Tarcísio, in turn, became the target of Bolsonarist attacks, including from the former president himself, after defending the approval of the reform.
The emedebist has been seeking Bolsonaro’s support for the 2024 elections. When asked about the topic, the former president has said that they still need to “take a lot of tubaína together”, that is, they need to get to know each other better.
Boulos, in turn, should have the support of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
In addition to Boulos and Nunes, federal deputies Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP) and Kim Kataguiri (União Brasil-SP) stand out as pre-candidates for São Paulo City Hall in 2024.
