From the 23rd to the 25th of June, the 1st edition of the Brasil Masters Swimming Trophy took place in Rio de Janeiro. The event, organized by the Brazilian Association of Swimming Masters (ABMN), had the participation of 344 athletes representing 46 teams from 13 states. One of the athletes who stood out in the competition was the 70-year-old Emilio Dias from Amapá.
Swimming for Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, the man from Amapá won five medals. The gold medal was in the relay, the silvers were in the 50m and 1,500m freestyle and the bronzes were in the 100m and 200m freestyle.
According to Emílio, his participation in the 1,500m race was difficult, but the result was very good. “It was a very complicated race, but thank God I managed to win second place”, he said. In addition to the achievements, the master athlete was awarded the Top Fina medal, from the International Swimming Federation.
Emílio is now preparing to participate in another challenge in Mosqueiro/PA, where he will compete in the Copa Brasil de Águas Abertas, on the 8th and 9th of July. The event is being organized by the Paraense Federation of Water Sports (FPDA), together with the Brazilian Confederation of Water Sports (CBDA), with support from the Municipal Secretariat for Sports and Leisure (SEJEL).
