Senate approves MP that resumes the Mais Médicos program; text goes to sanction

The Senate approved this Tuesday (20), in a symbolic way, Provisional Measure (MP) 1,165 of 2023, which reinstates the More Doctors program. Last week, the MP was approved by the Chamber of Deputies. With that, the text goes on to be sanctioned by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
The measure opens up the possibility of extending contracts and paying indemnities to encourage the work of physicians in areas of difficult fixation. In addition, the exchange doctor, the one who only has a professional registration abroad, will be able to participate in the program for four years without the need to revalidate the diploma, informed Agência Brasil. Previously, the period allowed was three years.
The Revalida dismissal rule may be applied to the rehiring of physicians who participated in the program until December 2022, regardless of the period of activity. Those who participated in Mais Médicos for more than four years can only be rehired with revalidation of the diploma.
About Revalida, an exam required for doctors trained abroad to have professional registration in Brazil, it will be a test applied every four months, and no longer every six months. This Monday (19), the Ministry of Health announced that it will expand the Mais Médicos program, opening 10,000 new vacancies in the co-participation modality of states and municipalities.
