SP Chamber should increase PM security deadline for former House presidents – 05/23/2023 – Panel

The Board of Directors of the City Council of São Paulo, chaired by Milton Leite (União Brasil), prepared a draft resolution that extended the number of years that the Military Police must take care of the personal security of former presidents of the House. The text can be voted on this Tuesday (23).
The text provides for at least two police officers to take care of the personal security of former presidents of the Chamber after the end of the term, in the proportion of one year for each year of the parliamentary term as president, uninterrupted or not. Currently, a rule approved in 2006 establishes that this service must be provided for up to two years.
Leite, for example, is in his third year in office, and so he will be entitled to three years of personal security provided by the Military Police Advisory.
The text also transforms the measure of an act of the board, originally approved in 2006 only by the top of the Chamber, into a draft resolution, which has to be countersigned in plenary, with the agreement of the majority of councilors.
The City Council of São Paulo, through its press office, states that the measure has existed for many years and that the draft resolution only makes an adjustment to the recent change in the Organic Law of the City that allowed the President of the Chamber to run for more than one reelection.
Re-elected for the second time in December, Leite is the first councilor to have three consecutive terms as president.
