Senate chiefs see no difficulty in approving a favorite for the STF – 03/25/2023 – Panel
[ad_1]
Senate bosses claim that, whatever the choice of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for the STF (Federal Supreme Court), the name must be approved without any surprises.
At first, they say, there are no objections either to lawyer Cristiano Zanin, who defended Lula in Lava Jato, or to Manoel Carlos Almeida Neto, former secretary general of the STF in the management of Minister Ricardo Lewandowski.
A staunch opponent of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) at the Covid CPI compares with the indications made by the former president. According to him, the Senate approved ministers André Mendonça and Kassio Nunes and even the reappointment of the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, after his performance in the pandemic.
Opposition parliamentarians point out that proximity to Lula could be an obstacle to Zanin, who will need at least 41 votes to be approved, if nominated. They promise to make it difficult for him to pass the Saturday at the CCJ (Commission on Constitution and Justice).
