The Catholic Parliamentary Front of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amapá (Alap) held, this Wednesday (13), a meeting in the mini plenary Lindoval Alcantara, with the friars Angelo It is Frames, coordinators of the Barco Hospital “Pope Francis”, to discuss the feasibility of bringing this river unit to the State of Amapá.
The deputy Diogo Senior (MDB), general coordinator of the Catholic Parliamentary Front, highlighted the extensive area and the considerable riverside population of the State, emphasizing the importance of the role played by the “Papa Francisco” Hospital Boat in the communities. “Barco Hospital has played this role excellently in riverside communities,” highlighted the coordinator. Diogo Senior also stated that the meeting aims to facilitate the arrival of the hospital boat to the State, seeking to provide health care to the population of Amapá.
The deputy Jesus Pontes (PDT), when addressing the difficulties faced by communities in seeking medical treatment, he expressed his knowledge of the challenges in these locations and highlighted his desire to actively contribute to this cause. “Seeing the Catholic Church doing this work fills me with pride and desire to contribute, to participate. Being present helping people is our mission in the Legislative Assembly”said Pontes.
According to the friar Frames, The idea for the boat came about at the invitation of Pope Francis to serve riverside communities in the Amazon and provide assistance to those most in need. “Today the boat serves riverside communities in the Pará region on a scheduled basis, providing health services, ranging from medical consultations and surgeries”said the friar.
The friar Angelo explained that the services are carried out on a voluntary basis, covering low and medium complexity, including exams, and that everyone who makes an appointment receives medication. He highlighted that they are building the third boat, called Papa João XXIII, which will have more service rooms.
The “Pope Francisco” vessel, 32 meters long, has a team of 23 health professionals. Equipped with rooms for X-ray exams, mammography, echocardiogram, as well as an operating room, analysis laboratory, pharmacy, space for vaccinations, medical, ophthalmological and dental offices, in addition to having hospital beds.
