In their first official match in Cuiabá, the Brazilian team drew 1-1 with Venezuela on Thursday night (12), at Arena Pantanal, in the capital of Mato Grosso. With the result, the team remained undefeated in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but is now in second place, with seven points, behind Argentina, which has nine.
Defender Gabriel Magalhães scored the Brazilian team’s goal, his first with the Seleção shirt. In the final minutes, Bello, with a half-bike, managed to equalize.
Now, the Seleção will face Uruguay, on Tuesday (17), at 9 pm, in Montevideo, in the fourth round of the Qualifiers.
The game
In the first half, the Brazilian team had many difficulties in breaking through Venezuela’s defense. He rarely reached the opponent’s goal with danger. Therefore, the team preferred to risk shots from outside the area.
It was like that with Neymar, in the 2nd and 12th minutes. Rodrygo did the same at 19, and Casemiro also tried at 39. In three of these shots, goalkeeper Romo made the save.
In Fernando Diniz’s best style, the Seleção once again demonstrated its new characteristic: concentrating players in the same sector when attacking.
Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo, for example, often appeared side by side on the left, always with the support of Neymar and Richarlison, in search of quick tables that involved Venezuela’s defense.
The Brazilian goal came after a corner kick made by Neymar, 4 minutes into the second half. Gabriel Magalhães got ahead of the marker and headed the ball home. With the favorable score, the Seleção had chances to expand, as it forced Venezuela to give up its defensive strength.
However, the team was lacking in finishing. The game was open, loose in midfield, and Venezuela managed to equalize with a Bello-style shot, in the 39th minute, in a move that surprised Brazil’s defense.
