Amapaense qualifies for the karate semifinals at Gymnasiade 2023 – News of Brazil

Gymnasiade 2023 has already started and competitions are in full swing. More than 2,000 under-15 student athletes from 46 countries are in Rio de Janeiro to compete in 18 sports: archery, athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, boxing, karate, sports dancing, fencing, artistic gymnastics, gymnastics rhythmics, judo, orienteering, paralympic swimming, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, wrestling and chess.
The Brazilian delegation is composed of 323 athletes and among them are Kenzo Pinon, Diego Duarte and Heron Gael. The athletes were summoned by the Brazilian Confederation of School Sports (CBDE) for the competition.
On Tuesday (22), Diego Duarte, from Amapa, born in Laranjal do Jarí, qualified for the semifinals of Karate, in the Kumite +70kg category. The athlete will compete for a place in the final this Thursday (24).
Also on Tuesday, Kenzo Pinon, from Amapa, competed in the final of the 200m butterfly and finished in 8th place, being a source of great pride and joy for the people of Amapa. Kenzo is the only athlete from the northern region to be part of the Brazilian swimming delegation at Gymnasiade 2023.
Athlete Heron Gael is yet to debut in wrestling.
About the competition
The Gymnasiade, School Sports Olympics, brings together more than 2,000 under-15 student athletes from 46 countries in Rio de Janeiro. The largest delegation is from Brazil, with 404 members, 323 of which are student athletes.
The world’s biggest school sports competition is organized by the ISF in partnership with the CBDE, with the support of Sesc Rio; the Student Sports Federation of Rio de Janeiro (FEERJ); the government of the state of Rio de Janeiro, through the State Secretariat for Sports and Leisure; and the federal government, through the Ministry of Sports.
The ISF U15 Gymnasiade 2023 has 18 modalities that are disputed in the carioca arenas 1 and 2, in the Olympic Tennis Center and Olympic Village, installed in the Olympic Park of Barra da Tijuca; at the Youth Arena, at the Deodoro Sports Complex; and at the Air Force University Sports Complex (Unifa), in Sulacap.
