8/1 CPI: Bolsonaristas want to use Abin against Lula – 05/05/2023 – Politics

Bolsonarist deputies say they will use reports from Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) that show the sending of alerts to bodies of the Executive and the Federal District about the acts of January 8 to attack the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government at the CPI that deals with the subject.

On the other hand, members of the centrão, who should play a leading role in the commission, and Lula’s allies intend that the focus be on the draft of the coup found in the house of former minister Anderson Torres.

A Sheet showed that Abin sent alerts to the then Minister of GSI (Institutional Security Office) Gonçalves Dias and to the Ministry of Justice, already under the command of Flávio Dino (PSB), about the possibility of violent actions and invasions since January 6th. to public buildings in the acts that would take place two days later.

The GSI and Justice deny having received these reports.

The documents were sent by Abin to the CCAI (Mixed Commission for the Control of Intelligence Activities) of the National Congress on January 20th. Alerts are kept confidential.

According to Deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), the idea of ​​the opposition is to have the reports as a guide and to look into the documents at the very first moment of the CPI in order to assemble a chronology of the facts.

“We will require all documentation, all emails, breaches of telephone secrecy from whoever is necessary, from the necessary institutions, so that we can be clear about who had the information. Putting together a chronology of facts to prove that there was an omission, yes, by the government federal as well. And possible other omissions that may have existed”, he says.

The parliamentarian also questions the arrest of Anderson Torres – former Minister of Justice of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) – and the removal from office of the governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), determined by the STF (Federal Supreme Court). He questions why “they are the only ones paying for this”, in reference to Torres and Ibaneis. “Don’t the others have any responsibility?”

Opposition parliamentarians say that one of the objectives will be to try to approve the summoning of Dino and Gonçalves Dias.

“I think they shouldn’t even wait for the summons. They should have already offered to provide clarification beforehand. Their summons will be inevitable, they owe explanations”, says Sóstenes.

Leader of the opposition in the Chamber, deputy Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ) says that Dino and Gonçalves Dias are “key players” to understand what happened on the 8th.

The deputy claims that the opposition will also explore the determination of the federal government to impose secrecy on the entirety of the images of acts of vandalism recorded by the camera system of the Planalto Palace. The breach of secrecy was determined by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, on the last 21st.

Jordy also says that the opposition will work to “prevent the government from being shielded” and that, for that, the parliamentarians will try “to ensure that there is respect in the distribution of vacancies” of the CPI and “impartiality of the president and the rapporteur”.

“We cannot allow them to be nominated by the government”, he says.

The expectation is that neither Lula’s PT nor Bolsonaro’s PL will take command positions in the January 8 CPI.

Senator Esperidião Amin (PP-SC) argues that the commission investigate both who financed the acts and other aspects. He says the reports should be one of the group’s lines of inquiry.

“What’s yet to be revealed, there’s already a way to go about omissions. Did everyone say they didn’t know anything? The light was shed [sobre esse tema]”, he stated.

On the other hand, members of the centrão who should hold important positions in the commission believe that the focus of the collegiate should be the draft of the coup, which was found by the PF (Federal Police) in the house of former minister Anderson Torres.

The seizure of the draft was revealed by the Sheet.

The purpose of the document would be to reverse the result of the election in which Lula won. Such a measure would be unconstitutional.

The three-page text, written on a computer, was found in the former minister’s closet during a search and seizure carried out in January. The PF investigates the circumstances of the preparation of the proposal.

Senator Rogério Carvalho (PT-SE) stated that Abin’s report should be investigated, but from the point of view that the GSI was still under the influence of the management of General Heleno, former minister of the portfolio; and that the investigation should be on line as to why the military there did not alert higher authorities to the seriousness of the situation.

“As for the draft, it shows how much there was an articulation on several fronts and the full intention of carrying out a coup d’état in Brazil”, he said.
