Minister Flávio Dino (Justice and Public Security) presented this Tuesday (18) a balance sheet related to the fight against violence in schools, which includes the taking down of 756 profiles on social networks dedicated to reproducing hate.

Dino was one of the ministers present at the meeting led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) at the Planalto Palace, this Tuesday morning, to announce a package of integrated actions to prevent violence in schools. Ministers of state, ministers of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), parliamentarians, governors and secretaries of Education participated.

The need for regulation of social networks was highlighted by several of those present, such as Dino, Camilo Santana (Education), Alexandre de Moraes (Minister of the STF and President of the Superior Electoral Court) and Rodrigo Pacheco (President of the Senate).

Flávio Dino said that the data show that there is an epidemic of these attacks in Brazilian society.

“There were 225 arrested or apprehended minors in ten days. This shows that we are facing an epidemic”, said Dino. “There is an upward trajectory, and we are about to cut this dangerous rise of violence and hatred.”

Earlier this month, a man entered a private school in Blumenau (SC) and killed four children. The case occurred nine days after the attack on the Thomazia Montoro state school, in São Paulo, when a 13-year-old student stabbed a teacher to death and injured five other people, including three teachers.

Supposed threats of attacks have changed the routine of schools across the country. Although most of the messages are false, parents, students and teachers report fear, and experts recommend reporting cases to the authorities.

Dino recalled that, in 20 years, there were 93 victims, including dead and wounded, in attacks on schools. And he pointed out that the situation has become more worrying in recent times.

In addition to the 225 arrests or seizures and 756 profiles dedicated to reproducing hate overthrown, Dino provided the following numbers:

• 694 subpoenas of suspected teenagers to give statements;
• 155 searches and seizures carried out;
• 1,595 police reports (in ten days);
• 377 registration requests for investigations;
• 7,436 complaints by the address of the Ministry of Justice

Despite an increase in cases in recent years and months, the Minister of Justice said that, in recent days, the complaints received by the folder are decreasing. It used to be 400 a day, went to 1,700 at its peak, and now it’s 170 a day, according to Dino.

At the meeting in Planalto, the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, announced a R$ 3 billion investment package for security and prevention actions. Practically all of the resources were already foreseen in the budget for other actions.

The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, began the event by stating that the attacks on schools have the same motivation as the January 8 attacks against the buildings of the Three Powers, in Brasília.

“It is basically the same motivation, motivation of hate, prejudice, racism, preached for many years, which was reflected in the act on the 8th and unfortunately now manifests itself in the attack on our children and our adolescents”, he said. .

Alexandre de Moraes says that the modus operandi of attacks on schools is identical to that of January 8th.

With regard to investments, the government had already announced a public notice of R$ 150 million to reinforce school rounds. But there were also training announcements.

The MEC (Ministry of Education) will now make available a booklet of recommendations for protection and safety in the school environment. Starting next Monday (24), there will be training in the ministry’s virtual environment for managers and teachers to implement these recommendations.

The so-called National Awareness and Guidance Campaign for Protection of the School Environment was also announced.
