65 more doctors: Dorinaldo will chair the commission that increases doctors in Amapá – News of Brazil

The federal deputy Dorinaldo Malafaia (PDT) was elected, this Wednesday afternoon (10), president of the Mixed Commission that will analyze the Provisional Measure 1.164, the MP of More Doctors. The vice-president of the committee will be Senator Marcelo Castro (MDB-PI) and the rapporteur will be Senator Zenaide Maia (PSD-RN).

The articulation took place by agreement with the leadership of the government in the National Congress, with emphasis on Senator Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede) from Amapa and the leader of the PDT, Deputy André Figueiredo.

Malafaia pointed out that the program is one of the most successful in the world in bringing medical care to the most difficult to access and settle places in Brazil.

“When the program was created, in 2013, I had the opportunity to take some of the first doctors to the Bailique archipelago. Fourteen of the sixteen municipalities in Amapá signed up for the current program and Amapá should receive 65 new doctors in the coming months. It is an important difference, it is respect for the health of the population, especially the most vulnerable”, declared Dorinaldo.

During the session, in addition to installing the joint committee table, the Work Plan was also approved, which provides for the holding of public hearings for subsequent reading and approval of the report.

Numbers and news

The Federal Government intends to invest another BRL 700 million in the program in 2023 and another BRL 3 billion in 2024 and 2025. A second stage of the program is also foreseen, where municipalities will have to participate with a counterpart.

A difference of this new Mais Médicos is that there will be the possibility for physicians to follow their academic training, with grants and specialization and master’s programs. This was a measure to try to keep the doctor in the workplace, since around 41% of professionals ended up abandoning the project.
