55% of Brazilians believe that Lula will make a better government than Bolsonaro

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s third term began with great expectations on the part of the Brazilian population. For 55% of the 2,000 respondents heard in an Ipec survey released this Monday (16), the PT candidate will make a better government than Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The survey also shows that, for 14%, the Lula 3 term should be the same as that of the former chief executive. Already 25% believe that the new government will be worse than the previous one.
According to the Ipec survey, 64% of Brazilians believe that the country is on the right track with the PT’s leadership and the announcements of his new management. At the other end, 26% say that Brazil is on the wrong track. A portion of 9% of respondents did not respond.
Even with a portion of two thirds of the population believing that the country is on the right track, President Lula still provokes the distrust of 41% of Brazilians. Those who trust the PT represent 54%. Do not know or did not answer were 4% of respondents.
The data indicate the persistence of the fragmentation that marked the electoral campaign and the results of the elections, with Lula’s narrow victory. The division scenario was the subject of his first speech after the second round. “From January 1, 2023 I will govern for 215 million Brazilian men and women and not just for those who voted for me. There are not two Brazils, we are just one people, one nation. It is time to gather again families, rebuild the bonds of friendship broken by the criminal propagation of hatred. No one is interested in living in a country in a permanent state of war,” he said.
The beginning of the government, however, was marked by the invasion of the headquarters of the three Powers by coup leaders, aggravating the conflict. Although the survey was also applied after the events of the 8th, the survey did not address the attack. Data collection was carried out between January 6 and 10, 2023 and included interviews with 2,000 Brazilians over 16 years old. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points. The confidence rate is 95%.
