2nd edition of the Spike Breaking Battle has extended registrations – News of Brazil

Entries for the second edition of the Spike Breaking competition in Macapá, which takes place at Glicério Marques Stadium on May 27th and 28th, have been extended. Those interested have until this Tuesday (23) to register, which is free and in person, at the Municipal Tourism Institute (MacapaTur), from 8am to 2pm.
The Municipal Institute of Tourism (MacapaTur), is located at Avenida Antônio Coelho de Carvalho, 319, Santa Rita.
The second edition of Batalha will define the breaking team from Amapa. The goal is to encourage athletes to reach national levels. The event is held by the City of Macapá, Instituto Cultural e Educacional Formar (ICEF).
For the director of Macapatur, Leda Sadala, the event takes place in a special way, with important partnerships and with the city of Macapá believing in the athletes and in the growth of the modality.
“All this work takes place through an amendment by councilor Caetano Bentes. Spike Breaking ceases to be a street dance and becomes recognized as a sport. We are hopeful that Macapá will have a representative on the Olympic team in 2024 and that we will win medals”says the manager.
Upon registration, participants receive a kit with shirts to be worn on competition days, which has already confirmed the presence of athletes from other countries, with this, Macapá enters the route of national and international sports tourism. Also at the event, Macapatur will set up a fair selling hip-hop products.
The Spike Breaking Battle was designed in honor of b-boy Spike, who died in 2021. The modality made its Olympic debut at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018. After its success, it was chosen to appear in the Olympic sports program of Paris 2024 as a new sport.
At the Paris 2024 Games, 16 B-Boys and 16 B-Girls will compete in solo battles.
Modalities:
- Individual B. boy – Awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
- Individual B. girl – Prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
- Crew (trio) – Awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
