Only 10 of the 96 administrative districts in the city of São Paulo do not have a high incidence of dengue fever — considered when there are more than 300 cases per 100,000 people.

Bela Vista (288.4), República (210.6) and Sé (279.0), in the central region; Jardim Paulista (171.7), in the west zone; Jabaquara (275.2), Moema (158.2), Saúde (179.4), Vila Mariana (148.9); Campo Belo (227.4) and Campo Grande (285.2), in the south, remain below this level.

The others already have a high incidence, according to the epidemiological bulletin from the Municipal Health Department released this Monday morning (8).

Furthermore, the capital of São Paulo confirmed 25,161 new cases of dengue in one week, which represents a 28.2% increase in new infections.

In 2024, from January 1st to April 3rd (survey period), the municipality recorded 114,314 cases and 39 deaths from the disease. The previous week, the capital had 89,153 cases and 33 deaths.

There are 96 deaths still under investigation; another 43 were ruled out for dengue.

Last year, from the 1st to the 14th epidemiological week (ending on April 6), São Paulo reached 4,785 confirmed cases of the disease, an increase of 2,289% compared to the same period in 2024.

In 2024, so far, epidemiological week 12 (from March 17 to 23) was the one that recorded the most cases of dengue (21,747).

In addition to deploying tents and extending opening hours at AMAs, the Municipal Health Department intensified actions to combat the dengue mosquito, from Sunday to Sunday, and with a six-fold increase in the number of agents on the streets — from 2,000 to 12 thousand.

In 2024 alone, more than 4,351,707 actions were carried out to combat Aedes aegypti in the capital, such as house-to-house visits, property inspections, actions to block breeding sites and fogging.

State of São Paulo confirms 221 deaths from dengue

The state of São Paulo reached the number of 221 deaths from dengue, according to data from the State Department of Health’s monitoring panel this Monday (8). Another 495 deaths are under investigation.

From January to April 8, the state reported 1,055,051 cases. Of these, 484,175 were confirmed for the disease. The Department of Health is investigating 153,209 cases of dengue and another 407,363 have been discarded.

Of the confirmed cases, 471 progressed to a severe form of the disease and another 5,534 showed some warning sign of severity.

In addition to the capital of São Paulo, there are deaths from dengue in at least 72 municipalities, such as Águas de Lindoia, Bady Bassitt, Bariri, Batatais, Bauru, Bebedouro, Bertioga, Boraceia, Botucatu, Bragança Paulista, Brodowski, Cachoeira Paulista, Caçapava, Caieiras, Campinas , Cândido Mota, Capivari, Catanduva, Cotia, Diadema, Espírito Santo do Pinhal, Franca, Guarujá, Guarulhos, Herculândia, Iguape, Ilha Comprida, Itatiba, Itajobi, Itanhaém, Itu, Jacareí, Jaguariúna, Jaú, Jundiaí and Lençóis Paulista.

There are also records of deaths from the disease in Limeira, Mairiporã, Manduri, Marília, Matão, Mauá, Mirassolândia, Mogi das Cruzes, Monte Alto, Monte Azul Paulista, Olímpia, Parisi, Pederneiras, Peruíbe, Pindamonhangaba, Piracicaba, Pongaí, Porto Ferreira, Restinga, Ribeirão Preto, Rio Claro, Santa Bárbara d’ Oeste, Santa Cruz das Palmeiras, Santo André, Santo Antônio de Posse, São Bernardo do Campo, São Francisco, São José da Bela Vista, São José dos Campos, Sorocaba, Suzano, Taubaté, Tremembé, Ubatuba, Votorantim and Votuporanga.

High fever (above 38ºC), body and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, malaise, lack of appetite, headache and red spots on the body are symptoms of dengue.

Drop in blood pressure, intense and continuous abdominal pain, dizziness, fainting, and cold, pale skin are signs of worsening.

According to a survey by the Department of Health, fever (86%), headache (79%), muscle pain (77%), nausea (41%), back pain (32%) and pain behind the eyes (30 %) continue to be the most common symptoms of dengue.

Chikungunya

Also from January to April 3, the city of São Paulo had 41 cases of chikungunya. Of these, 14 were contracted in the municipality and 27 outside.

In the same period last year, 15 cases of chikungunya were confirmed in residents of the city of São Paulo.

In the capital of São Paulo, the 14 cases of chikungunya that occurred in the capital of São Paulo occurred in the districts of Cachoeirinha (2) and Freguesia do Ó (1), in the north zone; in Cangaíba (1), in the southeast region; and in Cidade Dutra (9) and Grajaú (1), in the south zone.
