Now I have a house and I know I can achieve more things with football”, says Yasmin. Both lived in squats or abandoned spaces. It was in one of these improvised houses that Yasmin started playing ball in one of the fields at Aterro do Flamengo, in the South Zone of Rio, for the Estrela Nova team. “I’ve always liked playing, I’ve been playing since I was 8 years old. I played on the field, alone, wherever I could,” she says, who was seen and invited to join the NGO. There, she got help and a house to live in Caracol, but new factors began to threaten Yasmin’s life, such as violence. “The opening scene of the film is a shootout that started while we were recording. At first, we thought it was a shooting, then we found out that they were shots in honor of a drug dealer who had died. Despite this, I think the NGO is an oasis in that place and allows children to be children”, says director of photography, Silvia Gangemi. One of the scenes from the documentary Reproduction This entire scenario of poverty, helplessness and dreams was recorded in 2022, during the preparation for the Street Children’s World Cup, in Qatar, and at the event itself, with five other children, coming from Bangladesh , Pakistan and Palestine. But in addition to Yasmin’s past, which will be shown on the big screen, she has already started writing her future. After winning the World Cup in Qatar, she was invited to become an athlete at Fluminense’s youth team, where she plays as a striker. “Today I can see a future, I know that I can achieve more through football and I chose that for myself and my family”, she says.
