Galaxy S23 Ultra The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is a cell phone with a top-of-the-line configuration, with a large screen, a battery that lasts all day and a great set of high-resolution cameras. Its design follows a line started by Samsung in the Galaxy S22 Ultra (see the test), with emphasis on squarer corners and the use of the S-Pen stylus, which helps to write and draw on the screen . There are four cameras and a depth sensor on the rear, including a zoom that reaches up to 100x and 200 megapixels of resolution on the main lens. The cell phone was sold at the end of February for around R$6,000 in its version with 256 GB of internal storage. Galaxy S24 Ultra The Galaxy S24 Ultra, launched in January this year by the manufacturer, represents an increase compared to the previous generation. It still has a large screen, long battery life and great cameras, but – for now – it has one difference: the integration of artificial intelligence resources into the device. The design is similar to the Galaxy S23, but now Samsung has given the screen more square edges and a titanium finish. It also has the S-Pen stylus to write and draw on the screen. There are also four cameras and a depth sensor on the rear. The only change in the camera compared to the S23 Ultra is the greater image definition in optical zoom. The device cost R$10,000 in its version with 256 GB of storage. Samsung also sells models with 512 GB (R$ 11,000) and 1 TB (R$ 13,000). Differences The cameras are similar, the settings are very close, but what changes between the S24 Ultra and the S23 Ultra appears in the Android system, with a great integration of artificial intelligence resources in the newer model. On the Galaxy S24 Ultra, using some specific artificial intelligence functions – such as editing images – took longer processing time. For games and videos, the Galaxy S24 Ultra was faster than its predecessor in the most advanced graphics performance tests. This means that they will run the heaviest games without choking or freezing. But the difference in results was very small. Battery The Samsung devices tested can stay away from the socket all day, thanks to the large capacity 5,000 mAH battery in both models. The Galaxy S23 Ultra achieved more than 15h30 of use, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra reached 19:10 in the tests – the longest estimated duration of all cell phones tested by the Buying Guide since 2021. It is worth noting that the battery usage pattern varies according to each person. And it also doesn’t mean that the cell phone will be completely discharged after that time. Both have 45W wired and 15W wireless fast charging. Cameras The two Galaxy Ultras have four lenses on the back of the device, to go from wide-angle to superzoom with ease. The configurations are quite similar: in common, a 200 megapixel main camera, a 10 MP 3x zoom and a 12 megapixel wide angle. The differences are in the “periscope” zoom – on the S23 Ultra, it is a 10x optical zoom with 10 megapixels. To optimize the images and not take up so much space on the cell phone, Samsung uses a technology that groups the points of light (pixels) – there are 16 that become one . For battery tests, smartphone screens were calibrated to 70% brightness, to be able to run PC Mark. This is not always possible, as not all devices allow this fine adjustment. The tests were carried out with screens with a standard refresh rate (60 Hz). The battery was charged to 100% and the test ran for hours until it reached the end of the charge. When it reaches 20% or less charge, the test stops and shows how much battery life that smartphone can have, in hours/minutes.
